What is a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD)?

 

·         A process following a critical incident in which all involved personnel discuss the event, their reactions, and stress management in a group setting, facilitated by specially trained professional counselors and peers.

·         Debriefing offers information about normal human responses to abnormal events.

·         Debriefing accelerates the normal recovery of normal people with normal reactions to abnormal events.

·         Debriefings help people develop strategies for coping with reactions to the event.

 

Who facilitates a debriefing?

·         Mental Health Professionals trained in critical incident debriefings, crisis intervention and traumatic stress reactions.

·         NATCA Peer Debriefers who work in the Air Traffic environment, are trained in Critical Incident Stress Management, and want to help their fellow workers.
